DRDO successfully flight-tests indigenously developed Pralay missile
The quasi-ballistic missile trial off the Odisha coast paves the way for its imminent induction into the armed forces.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted a flight-test of the indigenously developed Pralay quasi-ballistic missile on Thursday, November 5, 2026. According to The Hindu, the test took place at approximately 11:10 a.m. from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast.
The Ministry of Defence stated that the trial was part of user evaluation processes. Data collected by various instruments at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur confirmed that the missile achieved all its intended goals during the flight.
The Pralay missile was developed by the Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in Hyderabad alongside other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) acted as a development-cum-production partner and manufactured the system.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, the armed forces, and industry partners. He noted that the advanced technology within the missile would improve the military's operational readiness and technological capacity to handle emerging threats.
Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh also extended congratulations to the teams involved in the test. The successful trial makes the induction of the missile into the armed forces imminent.
