West Bengal man arrested for allegedly killing wife and taking her head to temple

Rintu Ghosh was found in a Gangarampur temple with the severed head of Sima Sarkar on Wednesday.

A 47-year-old man, Rintu Ghosh, was arrested on Wednesday after allegedly killing his wife and carrying her severed head into a temple in Gangarampur town, Dakshin Dinajpur district, according to NewsX and The Indian Express.

The victim, 42-year-old Sima Sarkar, was found headless at the family home, while Ghosh was discovered sitting in a neighbourhood temple with her head. One report from Times Now stated the victim was 35 years old.

Dakshin Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta told The Indian Express that the killing allegedly followed a marital dispute. He noted that the couple's two children, aged 5 and approximately 12, were at the home when the incident occurred.

Ghosh was found holding a katari, a heavy agricultural knife, and reportedly told police, "I have turned psycho." While being taken away, he also mentioned losing his job with the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC).

Relative Rajesh Pramanik told NewsX that Ghosh had recently been acting strangely, including adopting a strict vegetarian diet and behaving like a tantrik. Neighbours noted the couple had experienced relationship problems.

Police have recovered the body for post-mortem examination and are collecting forensic evidence. Superintendent Gupta stated that a chargesheet will be filed soon.
