Class 3 student dies after suspected cardiac arrest at Delhi school
A nine-year-old girl collapsed in her classroom at Lovely Public School in Mayur Vihar on Wednesday morning.
A nine-year-old Class 3 student died after collapsing in her classroom at Lovely Public School in Mayur Vihar on Wednesday morning, according to reports by Hindustan Times, Telegraph India and Rediff.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:52 am while students were returning from a sports class. The girl reportedly collapsed while standing in front of her teacher, an event captured on the school's CCTV cameras.
School officials rushed the child to a private hospital in Nirman Vihar, east Delhi, where she was declared brought dead. Principal Dr Bhavna said the school staff informed the family and moved the girl to another hospital after being advised by the first medical centre.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar said a preliminary enquiry is underway and CCTV footage has been examined. A medico-legal report suggests the death was due to a possible cardiac arrest, though a post-mortem examination is pending.
The girl's uncle expressed shock, alleging that the school lacked adequate medical arrangements to handle an emergency. A school official stated that staff initially thought the child had suffered a chin injury due to a scratch before she was rushed to the hospital.
Police said no foul play has been found so far. Officers are continuing the investigation and will record statements from the parents and school authorities.
