Two arrested with three pistols and ammunition in Agartala

Police seized three pistols, 50 rounds of ammunition and six magazines during an operation in the Battala area.

Police arrested two youths with three pistols and 50 rounds of ammunition in the Battala area of Agartala on Wednesday, according to ANI and ThePrint. The operation took place at Bhutani Market under the West Agartala police station limits.

Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Panna Lal Sen said the arrests occurred after police acted on intelligence regarding an arms handover. The two individuals allegedly assembled at the market to deliver the weapons, Sen told reporters.

The arrested persons had travelled to the state by train on Wednesday and claim to be from Bihar, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) West Tripura Shiddalingappa K Pujar. Police stated the individuals arrived from outside the state.

The seizure included three pistols, 50 rounds of ammunition, six magazines and two mobile phones, according to ASP Pujar. Police suspect an interstate gang is involved in arms smuggling in Tripura.

The arrests occurred amid heightened security ahead of civic elections scheduled for November 27. The two individuals were arrested on charges of arms smuggling, Sen said.
