Indiramma Towers to be built in four more cities
Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced the expansion of the flagship housing scheme to Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal.
Telangana Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced on Wednesday that Indiramma Towers will be constructed within the limits of four municipal corporations in Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Warangal. According to The New Indian Express, these towers will be similar to those currently under construction in the Core Urban Region (CURE) of Hyderabad.
Reddy stated that 2,21,500 Indiramma houses have had housewarming ceremonies performed out of the 4.50 lakh units completed in the first phase. He added that 1.90 lakh more houses are currently at different construction stages and are expected to be finished soon. The minister estimated the total cost of construction at Rs 40,000 crore.
During a press conference held with IT and Rangareddy district in-charge minister D Sridhar Babu, Reddy said funds are transferred directly from Hyderabad to the bank accounts of beneficiaries every Monday to prevent corruption. He also instructed officials to carry out land resurveys with farmers present to resolve land-related issues.
BJP MP Eatala Rajender said the government is responsible for providing relief to poor families who built homes in slum settlements nearly 40 years ago. He suggested amending the law if required to protect these interests and called for the resolution of issues regarding GO No 59 and restrictions on houses built around Hyderabad.
Separately, the Telangana Housing department held an e-lottery on Wednesday to reallocate 1,741 houses across 14 Assembly constituencies. This followed instances where original allottees were ineligible or did not use the benefits. The lottery selected 875 additional beneficiaries for areas including Quthbullapur, Malkajigiri, Kukatpally and Sanathnagar.
