Odisha government announces monthly incentives for in-charge principals of aided colleges

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the proposal to provide monthly financial benefits ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.

The Odisha state government has decided to provide monthly financial incentives to in-charge principals of aided colleges based on their geographical location and place of posting, according to The New Indian Express and Kalinga TV.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved the proposal on Wednesday. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 641 in-charge principals managing private aided institutions within the 488 and 662 categories.

Under the new structure, principals posted in developed urban areas or their home districts will receive Rs 5,000 per month. Those working outside their home districts will get Rs 7,000 monthly, while those stationed 300 km or more from their residence will receive Rs 9,000.

Principals in geographically inaccessible or remote areas will be eligible for Rs 10,000 per month. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that a committee will determine which postings fall into the remote and difficult categories.

The state government will spend an additional Rs 6 crore annually to implement this measure. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the move would encourage faculty members to lead institutions in distant areas to ensure academic continuity.

The decision will take effect from the date the relevant government notification is published.
