Kashmir police have arrested 1,941 individuals in connection with more than 1,500 narcotics-related cases this year, according to Daily Excelsior.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Sujit Kumar stated during a press conference that authorities seized 1,711 kg of contraband and attached assets worth more than Rs 154 crore belonging to traffickers.
The IGP said police recovered Rs 1.10 crore in cash and froze 567 bank accounts containing Rs 1.71 crore. He noted that Rs 7.48 crore of this amount has been recovered, with efforts to find the rest continuing.
Regarding illicit crops, Kumar said they were destroyed at 2,116 locations across the region. He also mentioned that 93 FIRs were registered for cyber fraud, including seven cases involving mule bank accounts.
The IGP highlighted a Ganderbal investigation that uncovered a Chinese connection involving a youth from Srinagar allegedly running a network. He warned young people against letting others use their identities for suspicious financial transactions.
Addressing traffic, Kumar expressed concern over high-speed biking and motorcycle stunts. He noted that a 20-year-old student who filmed stunts on Foreshore Road was counselled by the Srinagar Police and later posted a video advising others against such behaviour.
