Six students with type 1 diabetes were also presented with the T1D Academic Excellence Awards. The awards were handed out by Centre chairman V. Mohan, managing director R.M.
Anjana, vice chairman Ranjit Unnikrishnan, and Hinduja Foundation programme director Ashish Mendhi.
Chief guest Ashish Mendhi said that children and young people with type 1 diabetes deserve every opportunity to learn, grow, and realise their potential. He noted that recognising academic achievements encourages them to pursue aspirations while managing their condition.
Dr. Mohan stated that willpower was the key common characteristic among those who survived diabetes for over 50 years. He said that controlling A1C levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, and discipline were the important ABCDs regarding diet and exercise.
