Maharashtra increases monthly internship stipend for final-year veterinary students

The state Cabinet has raised the monthly allowance for students under the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University to Rs 18,000.

The Maharashtra government has raised the monthly internship stipend for final-year veterinary students from Rs 11,000 to Rs 18,000, according to Times Now. The decision was made during a state Cabinet meeting held on November 4, 2026, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The revised amount will benefit students pursuing veterinary education under the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU). The increase of Rs 7,000 per month is intended to assist students with expenses such as food, accommodation, and travel during their compulsory internship period.

Under the new funding structure, the state government will provide Rs 15,000 per month. The remaining Rs 3,000 will be sourced from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and MAFSU. The ICAR will provide funds for six months, after which the university will use its own funds for the remaining six months.

Animal Husbandry Minister Pankaja Munde said the increased stipend would offer financial support and encourage students to work in veterinary hospitals, particularly in rural and remote areas. She stated the move is expected to improve the availability of trained manpower and help livestock farmers access quality services.

Munde also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Sunetra Ajit Pawar for the Cabinet decision.
