NDRF rescues fishermen and SDRF personnel from Telangana lake
Eight fishermen and State Disaster Response Force members were saved early Thursday after going missing in Khammam district.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams rescued eight fishermen and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel from Bethupalli Lake in Telangana's Khammam district early Thursday morning, according to ANI.
The rescue took place around 5:30 am following an incident on Wednesday when boats carrying the fishermen and SDRF members went missing in the Sathupalli mandal area. Police confirmed the operation is complete and no casualties were reported.
The situation began when fishermen became stranded in floodwaters at the lake, prompting the SDRF to launch a rescue attempt. The New Indian Express reported that the boats were suspected to have capsized in the swollen lake.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy enquired about the disappearance and directed District Collector Divakar to intensify rescue efforts. The Chief Minister also instructed Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju to monitor the situation, according to the Chief Minister's Office.
Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar coordinated with senior NDRF officials for the deployment of teams. In a post on X, Kumar said he spoke to the Khammam District Collector to assess the situation and remained in coordination with authorities to ensure a safe return for everyone involved.
