Odisha launches state-level effort to improve statistical infrastructure

Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired the first State Level Coordination Committee meeting to align state data with national benchmarks.

Odisha has started a state-level initiative to enhance the quality, coordination and comparability of official data, according to a report by Urban Acres.

Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired the first meeting of the State Level Coordination Committee (SLCC) at Lok Seva Bhawan on November 4. The meeting included the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) of the Government of India and various Odisha government departments.

The committee aims to create a formal platform to coordinate data collection and align state-level statistics with national benchmarks. Discussions focused on Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), District Domestic Product (DDP) and the harmonisation of administrative data.

The SLCC is intended to act as an apex coordination platform to establish operational coordination between MoSPI and state departments. Its remit also includes monitoring progress against the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The meeting finalised several strategic initiatives, though the specific details, implementation timelines and departmental responsibilities were not disclosed. No new urban projects, funding allocations or service-delivery targets were announced during the session.
