Bihar orders action against 1,700 teachers over alleged fake certificates

Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari directed officials to take action after verification of 2.40 lakh teacher credentials was completed.

The Bihar education department has ordered action against approximately 1,700 teachers who allegedly used fraudulent certificates for their appointments, according to Urban Acres. Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari issued these directions during a review meeting on Wednesday.

Tiwari stated that officials have finished verifying the credentials of 2.40 lakh out of 3.20 lakh teachers currently under scrutiny. The remaining 80,000 records must be checked quickly, and officials have been told to follow rules to penalise those found guilty of using fake documents.

The minister also addressed operational concerns including school infrastructure, security, and financial irregularities. He ordered that salaries for teachers and non-teaching staff must be released before Chhath without unnecessary delays.

Regarding attendance, Tiwari noted that nearly 5 per cent of teachers are not marking their presence. He instructed the additional chief secretary to work with district magistrates via video conferencing to create a reliable monitoring system.

The department has also directed that all schools, including Saraswati Vidya Niketan model schools, be fitted with CCTV cameras. Officials must also create a standard operating procedure to maintain cleanliness and ensure security guards are deployed to prevent theft.

The department's immediate priorities include finishing the pending certificate verifications and implementing the new attendance and school-monitoring systems.
