Kerala launches Sidharth Student Welfare app to report ragging and distress

The platform allows students to submit anonymous text or audio complaints to authorities in real time to improve campus safety.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan launched the Sidharth Student Welfare app at Government Women’s College, Vazhuthacaud, in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday, according to Urban Acres.

Developed by Digital University, the app enables students to report ragging, mental distress, and other safety concerns anonymously via text or audio messages.

Satheesan said the app was developed following a request from the mother of Siddharthan, whose death raised concerns regarding student safety and ragging.

The Chief Minister stated the app serves as an assurance that students are not alone and will act as a warning to those involved in ragging.

Higher Education Minister Roji M John said the government aims to prevent tragedies similar to Siddharthan’s death and ensure institutions are free from violence and lawlessness.

The draft Siddharth Anti-Ragging Act is currently under consideration by the government and proposes a legal framework for the app and a State Anti-Ragging Commission.
