More than 43,14,959 poor families in Bihar have completed the construction of pucca houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) (PMAY-G), according to figures released by the Rural Development Department reported by The Hindu.

The state government has spent a total of ₹56,743.40 crore on the implementation of the scheme to provide houses equipped with basic amenities. The PMAY-G is a flagship scheme of the Union Ministry of Rural Development aimed at providing pucca houses to houseless households and those in kutcha or dilapidated houses.

The implementation has been divided into two phases. In the first phase, covering the financial years 2016-17 to 2021-22, the department approved housing assistance for 37,00,531 beneficiaries, with 36,63,701 houses completed.

A second phase covering the financial years 2024-25 and 2025-26 has a target of 12,15,511 houses. So far, 6,51,258 beneficiaries have completed their pucca houses under this second phase.

Rural Development Department and Information & Public Relations Department Minister Shravan Kumar said the government is committed to ensuring development benefits reach disadvantaged sections in rural areas. He stated that payments are transferred directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries on time.

Minister Shravan Kumar added that the department is ensuring construction with transparency and efficiency, and that the construction of houses currently in progress will be expedited to achieve the target.
