Port City Colombo seeks Indian investment in IT and logistics
The Colombo Port City Economic Commission aims to secure $3 billion in global investment by 2030 through its services special economic zone.
Port City Colombo (PCC) is looking to attract Indian investors to its services special economic zone (SEZ), specifically within the hospitality, IT, and logistics sectors, according to The Times of India.
The facility near Colombo is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) between the Sri Lankan government and CHEC Port City Colombo, which is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company.
Harsha Amarasekera PC, chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, said the zone sees opportunities in tourism, IT, and logistics. He added that healthcare is another vital sector where India could establish a presence to act as a regional player.
Amarasekera PC noted that the evolution of transshipment through the Colombo port will create a requirement for Indian firms to create regional hubs inside the port city. He described these developments as complementary.
The PCC is currently targeting an additional $3 billion in investment from around the world by 2030.
