Bihar State Archives trains 400 officials in record management

The four-day workshop in Patna focused on the scientific preservation and digitisation of government documents.

The Bihar State Archives Directorate conducted a four-day training programme in Patna from November 2 to 5 for approximately 400 officials. According to Urban Acres, the workshop aimed to improve the maintenance and accessibility of government documents through scientific management and long-term preservation.

The training included officials from the state secretariat, courts, police departments, and district offices. Participants were briefed on their duties regarding the creation and preservation of public records under the Bihar Public Records Act, 2014, and the Bihar Public Records Rules, 2015.

Bihar State Archives director Mohd Faisal Abdullah inaugurated the programme. Abdullah stated that official records are essential to the administrative system and require organised, systematic preservation.

Technical sessions led by archivist Rashmi Kiran covered record classification, indexing, storage, transfer procedures, and record room management. The sessions also highlighted how digitising valuable documents can safeguard them and ensure long-term accessibility.

The initiative sought to improve record-keeping practices across various departments rather than limiting these responsibilities to the state archives directorate. The participating officials are expected to implement these management procedures within their respective offices.
