The Uttar Pradesh State Transformation Commission (STC) has constituted an Advisory Council of national and global experts to support the state's push towards a USD 1 trillion economy, according to The Times of India.
The council will be chaired by Parameswaran Iyer, a former NITI Aayog CEO and former World Bank executive director. STC CEO Manoj Kumar Singh will serve as vice chairperson, while STC additional CEO Akshat Verma will be the member secretary.
The council includes several prominent figures such as Samsung Southwest Asia president JB Park, World Bank chief economist Indermit Gill, HCL CEO C Vijayakumar, and Gates Foundation India Country Director Archna Vyas. Other members include UPL chairperson Jai Shriff, Dr Ashok Kumar Singh, Dr Arunabha Ghosh, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, Prateek Hira, Suvendu Choudhury, and Dr Mukesh Aghi.
As a high-level strategic advisory body to the STC, which was established in October 2022, the council's recommendations will be advisory. These suggestions will be placed before the government or competent authority for action.
The mandate covers eight areas, including employment generation, MSME competitiveness, and the One District One Product scheme. The council will also advise on infrastructure, logistics, emerging technologies, and measures to attract domestic and foreign investment.
The full council is scheduled to meet at least twice a year, though the chairperson may call special meetings as required.
