Urvil Patel scores maiden double century in Ranji Trophy win
The Gujarat batter remained unbeaten on 210 to help his team secure a 64-run victory against Kerala at the Narendra Modi stadium.
Urvil Patel scored an unbeaten 210 runs off 227 balls to lead Gujarat to a 64-run win against Kerala in the Ranji Trophy at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, according to Sportstar.
The innings served as a preparation for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2026-27. Patel, who has previously played for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, hit the double century to anchor Gujarat's large total.
Patel said he was pleased that his first double century in First Class cricket contributed to a victory. He noted that he chose to attack the bowlers to avoid being dominated after Gujarat faced difficulties early in the innings.
The batter explained that he decided to take chances against Kerala spinner Aditya Sarvate because the spinners were finding a rhythm. He added that the team wanted to post a large total to avoid batting again on the pitch.
Patel credited Vishal for a beautiful partnership during the innings. He stated that he hopes to maintain this form in the SMAT to help his side win the tournament.
