Maharashtra sanctions Rs44 crore relief for Amravati farmers

The funds will be distributed to 37,015 small and marginal farmers via direct benefit transfer following monsoon crop damage.

The Maharashtra government has approved Rs44 crore in financial aid for 37,015 farmers in Amravati district, according to compensation orders issued on November 3 by Urban Acres. The relief follows crop damage caused by heavy monsoon rains and floods between June and August.

The assistance is designated for small and marginal farmers, with compensation limited to a maximum of two hectares per person. Even if a farmer reports damage over a larger area, the relief calculation will not exceed this two-hectare cap.

Damage was recorded across 40,957.12 hectares in ten talukas, including Amravati, Bhatkuli, Nandgaon Khandeshwar, Chandur Railway, Anjangaon Surji, Dhamangaon Railway, Dharni, Chikhaldara, Morshi, and Tiwsa. In Nandgaon Khandeshwar, Rs1.42 crore was approved for 2,506 farmers covering 761.21 hectares of crop damage.

Additionally, Rs3.50 lakh has been sanctioned for 32 farmers in Anjangaon Surji for permanent land damage affecting 7.45 hectares. The remaining funds cover various affected farmers and crop areas across the other listed talukas.

Deputy collector Santosh Kokde has instructed tehsildars to ensure banks do not use these disaster relief funds to settle loan accounts or other recoveries. The funds will be sent to eligible beneficiaries through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) system.

The district administration stated that the list of beneficiaries will be made available on the official Amravati district website once the distribution is finished.
