West Bengal unveils new industrial policy to attract large investments
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari launched the West Bengal Investment Promotion Policy, 2026, featuring employment-linked incentives.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari unveiled the West Bengal Investment Promotion Policy, 2026, on Thursday to attract investors through tailor-made support and employment-linked incentives. According to BusinessLine, the policy offers assistance reaching 120 per cent of qualifying fixed capital investment for plant and machinery, distributed over ten years from the start of production.
The policy provides benefits such as electricity duty waivers, stamp duty concessions, SGST reimbursement, and EPF reimbursement for manufacturing and service sectors. Thrust sectors include semiconductors, electronics, green hydrogen, waste-to-energy, defence, and food and marine products.
Under the new rules, projects with fixed capital investment exceeding Rs 500 crore are classified as strategic and mega projects if investors secure their own land. If the government provides the land, the threshold for this classification rises to investments over Rs 1,000 crore.
Speaking to the media, Adhikari stated the BJP government is prepared to offer land to facilitate investments of approximately Rs 1 lakh crore in the coming months. He said the state would not use forcible land acquisition like the former Left Front government, nor a flawed policy like the previous Trinamool Congress administration.
The Chief Minister added that the government is making arrangements to build a land bank for industries. Urban Acres reported that a proposed land policy may involve the state buying plots directly from owners to transfer to companies, aiming to avoid the political conflicts of compulsory acquisition.
