Bihar imposes new social media rules for school staff and students
The state government has prohibited teachers, non-teaching staff, and students from posting social media reels without official permission.
The Bihar government on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, introduced new regulations for students, teachers, and non-teaching staff in government schools. According to The Hindu, these rules prohibit the creation or uploading of social media reels without obtaining prior approval from the relevant authorities.
This directive follows a decision made by the Department on October 30, 2026, to enforce a formal dress code for school staff. These measures come after the condition of government schools in Bihar appeared in national headlines.
The state has approximately 76,335 government schools, including about 47,000 primary schools, 25,000 upper primary schools, and around 5,000 higher secondary schools. There are about 6.6 lakh government school teachers employed across these institutions.
The BJP-led NDA government recently painted 551 government-model schools in saffron colour. The government stated these schools would be provided with all modern facilities for the students.
