CPWD invites bids for water pipeline from ITO to Kartavya Bhawan

The project involves laying a 3-km pipeline using trenchless technology to meet water demand during peak summer months in central Delhi.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has called for bids to install an additional 3-km water supply pipeline from ITO to Kartavya Bhawan 1, 2 and 3 in central Delhi, according to the Hindustan Times.

The project is estimated to cost ₹7.88 crore and will involve laying a 200-mm-diameter mild steel pipe. The work will use horizontal directional drilling (HDD), a trenchless technology, to reach Plot 137 on Rajendra Prasad Road.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the new lines are intended to manage increased water requirements during the peak summer period.

The estimated costs include ₹4.42 crore for the HDD installation and ₹2.38 crore for the supply of the pipes. Other tasks include constructing manholes, installing valves, and connecting the line to the current network.

The contractor must perform a subsurface utility engineering survey over a 2.8-km corridor using ground-penetrating radar and electronic pipe locators. This survey aims to identify existing cables and pipelines.

The project must be finished within 120 days of the site being handed over. Milestones include securing New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approvals and completing 25 per cent of the pipeline within 45 days.
