The Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri train caught fire near Sarai Banjara on Friday afternoon.
A fire broke out in four coaches of the Karmabhoomi Express in Punjab on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred near the Sarai Banjara railway station on the Rajpura-Sirhind section while the train was moving.
According to reports from Moneycontrol and Bhaskar English, the fire started in a general coach attached to the engine and spread to four coaches. The train, number 12508, was travelling from Amritsar to New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal with approximately 1,500 passengers on board.
The Government Railway Police stated that a short circuit in a coach fan caused the blaze. While one report mentioned several passengers were injured, Onmanorama and Bhaskar English reported that no casualties or injuries occurred.
Panic among passengers led some to jump from the train or run toward nearby fields to escape the smoke and flames. The train was brought to a halt after its safety system was triggered, and passengers were later accommodated in another train.
The incident caused disruptions to rail traffic, leading the Ambala Division to divert eight trains. This included five trains in the down direction and three in the up direction to alternative routes.
