AIIMS Awantipora construction to be completed by March 2027, says Nadda

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda set a deadline for the remaining construction works during a project review in Srinagar.

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced on Thursday that the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Awantipora in south Kashmir will be completed by March 2027, according to The Hindu.

While reviewing the project, Nadda stated that AIIMS Awantipora is a priority project and directed agencies to maintain momentum to finish the remaining construction works by the deadline.

Officials informed the Minister that Phase-I buildings, including the OPD Registration Block, OPD Block, residential buildings, and designated hostels, have been completed. Inventory verification and formal handover processes are currently underway.

Nadda directed that essential procurements for starting OPD services be completed on priority. Approval has been given for the procurement of 180 medical equipment items worth ₹59.41 crore, with Notices of Award issued for 140 items.

Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakima Itoo welcomed the announcement, noting that the start of OPD services will benefit patients in Kashmir who currently travel long distances for advanced treatment. She added that 100 MBBS students will start classes soon.

Academic activities, including the commencement of MBBS classes, are proposed for the 2027–28 academic session beginning in June–July 2027. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti said the project is a testament to the vision of Mufti (Muhammad Sayeed).
