Meghalaya on track to host 39th National Games

The Games Technical Conduct Committee expressed satisfaction following a four-day inspection of proposed venues in Shillong and Jowai.

Preparations for the 39th National Games in Meghalaya are progressing well, according to Sportstar. Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) chairperson Sunaina Kumari said on Thursday that the committee is satisfied with the progress following a four-day inspection of proposed venues in Shillong and Jowai.

The five-member GTCC, which was appointed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on October 14, visited the state from November 2 to 5. Kumari praised the coordination between government departments and agencies, stating that everyone is working towards the successful hosting of the Games.

Kumari also acknowledged the contributions of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, the Deputy Chief Ministers, and Sports Minister Dr Vijay Kumar.

Meghalaya has proposed hosting 39 sporting disciplines across Shillong, Jowai, and Tura. However, the list remains tentative, and the IOA will make the final decision in consultation with the GTCC. The inclusion of taekwondo is also subject to the IOA's decision.

Proposed venues include the JN Sports Complex, which is slated to host the opening ceremony, the Shillong Golf Club, the North-Eastern Hill University campus, and Umiam Lake. The specific dates for the National Games have not yet been announced.
