Fatalities in the district fell by 30 per cent during the first 10 months of the year despite more crashes.
South Goa recorded 1,142 road accidents between January and October this year, marking a 12 per cent increase from the 1,019 accidents reported during the same period last year, according to figures from the Goa Police traffic cell.
Urban Acres reported that while the total number of accidents rose by 123, the number of fatalities during this 10-month period declined by 30 per cent.
In October, the district saw two fatal accidents, which was a decrease from the five fatal accidents recorded in October last year.
Data shows that nearly 29 per cent of the reported crashes were self-accidents involving only one vehicle instead of a collision between two vehicles.
Two-wheelers represent a large portion of these incidents, and head injuries have been identified as a major concern.
The Goa Police traffic cell noted the rise in accidents and the frequency of single-vehicle crashes as ongoing issues, highlighting a need for responsible driving and road-safety awareness among two-wheeler riders.
