The 20-member body will coordinate departmental efforts to help the state reach a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036.
The Tamil Nadu government has established the Tamil Nadu Investment Promotion Commission (TNIPC) to facilitate various investment types, including those involving Free Trade Agreements and capital from the Tamil diaspora. According to reports from The Hindu and The New Indian Express, the commission was notified by the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department on Tuesday.
The 20-member body will be chaired by the Chief Secretary, while the Secretary of the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department will act as the member-convener. The commission was formed under the amended Tamil Nadu Business Facilitation Act, 2018, to help transition investment commitments into active projects and employment.
The TNIPC will review high-impact investments involving proposed capital of ₹200 crore or more, or those expected to create at least 5,000 jobs. Its membership includes ex-officio secretaries from departments such as finance, energy, labour welfare, and environment, as well as the managing director of Guidance Tamil Nadu.
The move follows the Tamil Nadu Business Facilitation (Amendment) Act, 2026, which came into force on November 3. The amended act aims to reduce the time required to obtain clearances under 22 state acts to 21 days, excluding public and local holidays.
