Tamil Nadu to ensure uninterrupted power supply on Deepavali, says minister

Energy Resources Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar stated that the electricity department has been instructed to avoid power cuts during the festival.

The Tamil Nadu government has made arrangements to ensure a steady power supply across the state on Deepavali, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle on Thursday.

Energy Resources Minister C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar said while speaking to reporters in Madurai after inaugurating a new building at a government higher secondary school in Puliyankulam. He stated that officials have been directed to conduct inspections and avoid unnecessary power shutdowns.

The minister added that the public can lodge complaints if they face any interruptions in supply. Regarding the arrest of former minister Anbil Mahesh, Nirmal Kumar maintained that action was taken based on evidence that money collected from educational institutions was handed to him.

Nirmal Kumar alleged that these collections continued for two years and noted that investigators have documentary evidence, including a pen drive with transaction details. He said the matter has been placed before the court.

On the issue of crop loan waivers, the minister said discussions are underway among ministers following directions from the Chief Minister. He stated that further action will be announced once consultations are complete.

Addressing rising essential commodity prices, Nirmal Kumar said the government is arranging supplies from other states to contain increases. He also predicted a poor performance for the DMK in upcoming elections, asserting the TVK-led alliance would win 200 constituencies.
