Tripura CM orders strict action after BSF personnel attacked in Ashabari
Chief Minister Manik Saha reviewed the state law and order situation following an assault on security forces in Sepahijala district.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday directed authorities to take firm legal action against those responsible for an alleged attack on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Ashabari area of Boxanagar. According to ANI, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level meeting in Agartala to review the state's law and order situation.
The incident occurred on Monday when a group of miscreants allegedly assaulted BSF jawans. Reports from Telangana Today state that the altercation began near the Boxanagar-Rahimpur road after personnel from the 49th Battalion detained an individual, Hefzur Rahman, on suspicion of smuggling. The mob reportedly used sticks and bamboo to attack a BSF vehicle and personnel, injuring Company Commander Rohit and three others.
During the meeting, which included officials from the police, BSF, CRPF, and Assam Rifles, Saha emphasised a zero-tolerance approach to cross-border smuggling. He called for better coordination between security agencies and the state administration to maintain peace along the international border.
Former Chief Minister and CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar also condemned the assault in Asavari village, describing it as unacceptable. Sarkar noted that the tension led to locals blocking roads and stated that if any wrongdoing had occurred, formal complaints should have been lodged at a police station instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma said on Tuesday that nine people had been arrested in connection with the assault. The News Mill reported that approximately 10 people, including two or three women, had been taken into police custody.
