Rescue workers recovered the body of a 40-year-old man from the debris in Chawri Bazar on Saturday.
The death toll from a building collapse in Old Delhi's Chawri Bazar rose to three on Saturday, according to ANI. Rescue teams recovered the body of Pankaj Sharma, a 40-year-old resident of Khagaria district in Bihar, from the site.
Authorities have accounted for five people from the collapse, including three who died and two who were injured. The other deceased individuals were identified as 40-year-old Kishori and 45-year-old Sanjeet. The two injured persons are reported to be in stable condition after receiving medical treatment.
The three-storey under-construction building collapsed near Ajmeri Gate on Thursday morning. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manoj Kumar said it appeared the temporary supports, or centring, were removed while the concrete was still wet, causing the structure to fall.
Police have arrested three contractors, identified as Siraj, Tajuddin, and Furkan. All three are residents of the Faridabad district in Haryana. They were arrested in connection with a case registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The collapse occurred in a narrow lane approximately three feet wide, which has made it difficult for heavy machinery and rescue trucks to access the site. Approximately 30 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been involved in the operations.
