Bengal extends 7th Pay Commission mandate to university and board staff
The state government will review the pay structures and service conditions of non-teaching staff at 25 state-aided universities.
The West Bengal government has expanded the scope of its 7th Pay Commission to include the non-teaching workforce of state-aided universities and regular staff from three education boards, according to reports by Mint, ThePrint and Telegraph India.
A resolution from the state finance department dated November 5, which was released to the media on Friday, confirmed that the commission will now examine these groups.
The review covers regular employees of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, and the West Bengal Board of Madrasah Education.
A senior state government official told PTI that the panel will assess current arrangements and submit recommendations based on the terms of reference set by the government.
The commission was originally established to evaluate the pay, allowances, and retirement benefits of state government employees through resolutions issued on July 22 and July 29.
The notification does not detail the scale of any salary increases, the effective date, or the payment of arrears, which officials say will likely be addressed after the commission submits its findings.
The 25 universities included in the review are Calcutta University, Jadavpur University, Burdwan University, Kalyani University, North Bengal University, Rabindra Bharati University, Vidyasagar University, and Gour Banga University, among others.
