The Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister stated that the Nationalist Congress Party (SP) president is recovering well from a chest infection.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Nationalist Congress Party (SP) president Sharad Pawar at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Friday to enquire about his health, according to reports by ANI and Rediff.
Pawar, aged 85, was admitted to the private hospital three days ago for treatment of a chest infection. Dr Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital said the senior leader is responding to treatment and his condition is steadily improving.
Shinde said that Pawar is doing well and may be discharged on Saturday. He noted that the veteran politician used the time to discuss the drought situation in the state, specifically regarding water issues in Satara and Mahabaleshwar.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who leads the Shiv Sena, emphasised that his visit was non-political and that his relationship with Pawar goes beyond politics. He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for setting aside political differences to check on Pawar's health via telephone.
Shinde, who was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Milind Deora and Maharashtra legislative council deputy chairperson Sachin Ahir, advised Pawar not to rush his recovery. Pawar was previously admitted to Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic on November 2 before being moved to the Mumbai hospital on November 4.
