Chennai: 600 workers and 350 vehicles deployed to clear firecracker waste

The Chennai corporation has distributed 30,000 special bags to staff to ensure the safe disposal of waste from Deepavali celebrations.

The Chennai corporation has deployed approximately 600 conservancy workers and 350 vehicles to manage the disposal of firecracker waste generated during Deepavali celebrations, according to The New Indian Express.

The civic body has provided 30,000 designated bags, each with a 50 kg capacity, to workers for the separate collection of this waste.

Residents have been urged to use only green crackers and follow the state government's permitted time slots of 6 am to 7 am and 7 pm to 8 pm.

The corporation requested that citizens separate firecracker remains from their regular biodegradable and non-biodegradable household refuse to hand over to workers.

Residential complexes identified as bulk waste generators must set up specific collection points for firecracker waste within their premises.

The civic body advised against dumping waste in public spaces like streets or stormwater drains and will conduct mass cleaning operations at night after the celebrations.
