The 19-year-old victims were travelling to Vellore for the Deepavali festival when their motorcycle hit a wall on Saturday.

Two 19-year-old college students died after their motorcycle hit a parapet wall on the Sunguvarchatram flyover in the early hours of Saturday, according to The New Indian Express.

The accident occurred on the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway while the victims were returning home for Deepavali. The deceased have been identified as Prathap, a native of Kaniyambadi in Vellore, and his friend Rahul of Pappanchatram in Tiruvallur.

Police stated that Rahul was riding the bike at high speed and allegedly lost control while navigating the flyover. The impact threw both students onto the Walajabad Road below. Prathap died at the scene due to severe head injuries, while Rahul died while being transported to the hospital.

Authorities noted that the two students, who were first-year college students in Chennai, were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Their bodies were sent to the Sriperumbudur Government Hospital for postmortem examinations.

The police have registered a case regarding the incident. Meanwhile, the Greater Chennai Police has formed special teams to monitor public roads for bike racing and stunts during the festival period.
