Rain predicted across Tamil Nadu on Deepavali Sunday
The Regional Meteorological Centre expects widespread rainfall in several districts, with heavy spells likely in southern and delta regions.
Tamil Nadu is expected to experience a wet Deepavali on Sunday, as weather agencies predict rain clouds over many parts of the state until November 12, according to The Hindu.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast widespread rainfall, with intense spells expected in south and delta districts. North coastal and interior districts, including Chennai, are expected to receive moderate rainfall.
Heavy rainfall may occur in isolated places across seven delta and south districts, such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Ramanathapuram, and Thoothukudi, on Sunday. Nearly 20 other districts, including Sivagangai, Theni, Tiruchi, and Kanniyakumari, are also expected to see moderate rain.
V.R. Durai, Head of the Regional Meteorological Forecasting Centre at the RMC, said a weather system over the southeast Arabian sea is influencing wet weather in the southern parts of the state. He added that a system near the Comorin area and Sri Lankan coast is expected to sustain intense rainfall, particularly in Thoothukudi and Ramanathapuram.
A low-pressure area is likely to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 13, though it has a slim chance of intensifying into a depression. Durai said a significant increase in rainfall is expected around November 17 and November 18 due to strengthening easterly waves.
The sustained wet weather may help improve the state's Northeast monsoon surplus, which is currently at 7 per cent. Some districts, including Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Mayiladuthurai, Thoothukudi, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur, are currently in the rain deficit category.
