Delhi father compares air quality of Delhi and Helsinki in social media post

Author Manoj Arora cited air quality index differences between Delhi and Finland while expressing pride in his daughter's success abroad.

Author Manoj Arora shared a post on X comparing the air quality index (AQI) of Delhi and Helsinki, Finland, where his daughter is settled. According to a Times of India report, Arora cited an AQI of 507 for Delhi and 22 for Helsinki.

Arora stated he was proud of his daughter and wrote, "I have been a good parent." He responded to social media users who suggested moving abroad is a privilege for wealthy families by stating he is a middle-class man and his daughter secured a 100 per cent scholarship for her Masters at Helsinki University.

Arora explained that his daughter's decision to move was also driven by professional goals. He said she wanted to work with medical professionals to develop analytical models to predict human diseases, an opportunity he claimed she could not find in India.

The post sparked a debate on social media regarding the environmental future of children. While some users related to the desire for cleaner air, others noted that moving abroad is not the only option, citing places like Dehradun as alternatives.

The discussion follows recent Supreme Court proceedings regarding pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. On November 6, a three-judge Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant discussed steps to address the air quality crisis.

During the hearing, senior advocate Aparajita Singh, acting as amicus curiae, told the court that pollution levels were near the severe category. She noted that stubble burning accounted for 14 per cent of Delhi's pollution on November 5.
