Janice Tjen and Magda Linette reach Chennai Open final
The top-seeded Indonesian and the third-seeded Pole secured their places in the singles final at the WTA 250 event in Chennai.
Top seed Janice Tjen and third seed Magda Linette will face each other in the WTA 250 Chennai Open final after winning their respective semifinals on Saturday, according to reports from The Times of India and Sportstar.
Indonesian player Tjen, the defending champion, defeated American Robin Montgomery 6-4, 6-3 at the SDAT Stadium in Nungambakkam. Tjen, who is ranked World No. 75, recorded her ninth consecutive win at the venue.
Linette, a 34-year-old Pole and former World No. 19, overcame seventh seed Anastasia Zakharova 2-6, 6-2, 6-3. Zakharova is ranked World No. 107.
Tjen noted that playing amidst the sound of firecrackers was difficult as players are used to quiet environments. She said she tried to stay focused and tune out the random noise after being informed by the supervisor that fireworks would occur.
In the women's doubles, Rutuja Bhosale and Vaishnavi Adkar won 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 against the second-seeded pair of Alana Smith and Weronika Falkowska. The victory made them the first all-Indian duo to reach a doubles final at a Tour-level event.
