Tiger kills farmer in Maharashtra's Beed district
The victim was collecting grass for his cattle in the Lokhandwadi-Sonepathar area when the attack occurred on Saturday.
A farmer was killed by a tiger while collecting fodder for his cattle in the Lokhandwadi-Sonepathar area of Maharashtra's Beed district on Saturday, according to India Today.
The victim, Devidas (Mahadev) Takle, a resident of Deolali village in Ashti tehsil, was attacked around 7.30 am. His son discovered bloodstains and drag marks in a field before alerting villagers to search for him.
A search party found the tiger near the forest about half a kilometre from the field. The animal fled into the woods after villagers raised an alarm, but Takle had died from his injuries.
Ashti MLA Suresh Dhas claimed the tiger, identified as Ramlinga, had previously killed an animal in the area and was responsible for the fatal attack on Takle. Dhas urged residents to avoid the affected areas until the animal is captured.
Local resident Mohan Amte demanded the immediate capture of the tiger and financial aid for the deceased's family, warning of protests if authorities do not act. Villagers noted that four farmers have died in big-cat attacks in the Ashti region over the last three years.
Ashti Forest Range Officer (RFO) Amol Munde said a tiger has been in the Ashti and Patoda forest areas since October 17. Munde stated the department has increased patrolling and installed camera traps in the region.
