A passenger train derailed in Giza province after hitting another train on Sunday, according to reports from the Times of India.

At least 4 people died and 120 people were injured after a passenger train derailed following a collision in Egypt's Giza province on Sunday, according to the Times of India.

The accident occurred in the Al-Ayyat district on the outskirts of Cairo. Egyptian authorities stated that a train moving from Giza to Fayoum hit the rear of a train travelling from Cairo to Aswan.

The health ministry confirmed that 64 people sustained injuries. Emergency response teams and cranes were sent to the site to clear the wreckage.

The injured were moved to local hospitals for medical treatment. The Egyptian railway authority said work is ongoing to clear the site and return train services to their regular schedule.

A previous accident involving two freight trains occurred in the same district in September last year, which injured a driver and his assistant.
