Ayodhya authorities launch clean-up drive along Saryu River after Deepotsav

More than 1,800 workers have been deployed to remove used diyas and waste from the ghats following the 10th edition of Deepotsav.

Authorities in Ayodhya launched a clean-up drive along the banks of the Saryu River on Sunday morning, according to ANI. The operation follows the conclusion of the 10th edition of Deepotsav, which took place on Saturday.

The drive aims to remove used earthen lamps (diyas), wicks, and other waste materials to restore the ghats to an orderly condition ahead of Diwali. On Saturday, more than 36 lakh diyas were lit across 56 ghats, including Ram Ki Paidi, to mark the celebrations.

The event was attended by Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The festivities included a light-and-sound show, a drone display, and stage performances depicting episodes from the Ramayana.

District Magistrate Pulkit Garg said that more than 1,800 workers have been deployed for cleaning at all locations. He added that police have been deployed at all traffic points and night shelters have been set up.

The Diwali festivities began with Dhanteras on November 6 and Choti Diwali on November 7. The main festival of Diwali and Lakshmi Puja was observed on November 8, with Govardhan Puja on November 10 and Bhai Dooj on November 11.

Meanwhile, a five-day Deepotsav fair is also underway in Chitrakoot for the occasion of Diwali.
