Adkar and Bhosale finish as runners-up at Chennai Open

The Indian duo became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final despite losing the championship match.

Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale lost to Switzerland's Simona Waltert and Naima Karamoko in the WTA 250 Chennai Open women's doubles final on Sunday. The Swiss pair won the match with a score of 6-2, 6-0.

According to Rediff, the Indian pair struggled to match the intensity of their opponents, as Karamoko dominated at the net and Waltert provided support from the baseline. The second set saw the Swiss team establish a 3-0 lead after Bhosale lost her serve following a double fault and several errors.

The achievement follows a historic semifinal victory on Saturday. The Bridge reported that Adkar and Bhosale defeated second seeds Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the USA with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.

This victory made them the first all-Indian combination to reach a final at the main WTA Tour level. While Shikha Uberoi and her sister Neha reached finals in 2005, Neha represented the USA, making them an Indo-American pair, according to The Bridge.

The loss in the final comes after a significant run for the home players. Adkar and Bhosale reached the championship match after overcoming a mid-match slump in their previous round to secure their place in the final.
