PM Modi and Amit Shah should be questioned over Delhi pollution, says Manoj Jha
The Rashtriya Janata Dal MP stated that responsibility for the air quality crisis should not rest solely with the Delhi Chief Minister.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha on Sunday questioned the Centre and the Delhi government regarding the air pollution levels in the national capital. Speaking to ANI, Jha asked what specific measures had been organised during the year to address the repeating issue.
The RJD MP said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah should be held accountable for the crisis. He noted that the BJP had sought a triple-engine government and argued that the Delhi Chief Minister should not be the only one blamed.
Jha questioned whether the opposition is responsible for preparing and implementing action plans, noting that while they will raise the issue in Zero Hour, they do not implement the solutions. He said that stubble burning would likely become an excuse again next October or November.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's air quality worsened on Sunday morning. The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 483 at 8:10 am, placing it in the 'severe' category.
Several areas in the capital recorded AQI levels above 400, including Punjabi Bagh at 449, RK Puram at 448, Bawana at 446, IIT Delhi and Rohini at 445 each, Patparganj at 421, Chandni Chowk at 420, and Alipur at 413.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had invoked Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR on Friday, two days before Diwali, due to concerns about declining air quality.
