PM Modi visits L.K. Advani as veteran leader enters 100th year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the former deputy prime minister on Sunday to mark his birthday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited former deputy prime minister Lal Krishna Advani at his residence on Sunday to greet him on his birthday, according to the Times of India. The veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader entered his 100th year on 8 November.

The BJP organised a havan at its headquarters between 10am and 10.30am to mark the occasion. BJP national president Nitin Nabin and other senior party leaders attended the ceremony.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said he had written an article regarding Advani's contribution to the BJP and Indian politics. He noted that Advani experienced the Partition, strengthened the Jana Sangh, built the BJP, and stood up to the Emergency.

Modi also referred to Advani's role in the Somnath-Ayodhya Rath Yatra and his service in government. He described Advani as a prolific writer and a voracious reader with interests in culture and cinema.

Nitin Nabin described Advani as a guide to party workers and acknowledged his role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the organisation's growth.

Born in Karachi on 8 November 1927, Advani joined the RSS in 1942. He served as BJP president for three terms between 1986 and 2005, was India's deputy prime minister from 2002 to 2004, and received the Bharat Ratna in 2024.
