Karnataka private medical colleges offer 50 per cent fee cut for vacant seats
Colleges are providing fee rebates to fill 190 undergraduate management quota seats during the special stray vacancy round.
Private medical colleges in Karnataka are offering up to a 50 per cent rebate in fees to fill 190 vacant undergraduate management quota seats, according to the Deccan Herald.
The management quota fees typically range between Rs 36 lakh and Rs 45 lakh per year for the 4.5-year MBBS course, which includes a mandatory one-year internship.
Two colleges that previously charged Rs 36 lakh annually, totaling Rs 1.26 crore for the full course, are now offering the entire course for Rs 65 lakh to prevent 12 seats from going unfilled.
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has no provision to publish revised fees on its website, so colleges are reportedly using agents to reach students.
H Prasanna, Executive Director of the KEA, said there is no provision for fee alteration and that colleges are dealing directly with aspirants.
A seat aspirant reported receiving calls from three colleges offering fee discounts, while the parent of another student said they were promised a 50 per cent discount for the remaining 3.5 years of the course.
Results for the special stray vacancy round counselling are expected to be announced on November 11.
