Telangana CM Revanth Reddy to launch Praja Balam programme after Sankranthi
The Chief Minister plans to visit every village to interact with residents and farmers regarding El Nino challenges.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Saturday that he will launch the ‘Praja Balam’ (People’s Strength) programme following the Sankranthi festival. According to reports from The Hindu and ANI, the initiative will involve visiting every village to engage directly with residents and farmers.
Speaking at an event in Vikarabad district involving agricultural scientists and progressive farmers, Reddy urged the public to support government efforts to manage drought and El Nino weather conditions. He advised farmers to avoid water-intensive crops during the upcoming Rabi season and instead cultivate vegetables and dry crops.
The Chief Minister has requested the Assembly Speaker to call a special two-day session to discuss the Kaleshwaram project, Godavari river water management, and El Nino impacts. This follows disputes between the ruling Congress party and the opposition BRS over water issues.
Reddy criticised former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) regarding the Medigadda barrage, alleging the previous BRS government changed project designs and cost estimates for commissions. He also claimed the former administration ignored a central government offer to designate a project as a national project and sidelined the Pranhita project.
The Chief Minister alleged that no irrigation projects were completed in Palamuru district during ten years of BRS rule, naming projects such as Kalwakurthy, Bhima, and Kodangal as neglected. He stated that the current administration is progressing with the Makthal-Narayanpet lift irrigation scheme and providing water through the Sitarama project.
Reddy also mentioned plans to develop the Kodangal region into an education hub and industrial park, with further projects worth Rs 10,000 crore planned for the area.
