The incident in Amreli district marks the third time a Vande Bharat train has been targeted by stone-pelting in Gujarat over four months.
A stone-pelting incident damaged the Sabarmati-Veraval Vande Bharat Express in Gujarat's Amreli district on Diwali morning. According to WION, the projectile shattered both the inner and outer glass panes of a window in the E2 coach, near seats 9 and 10.
The incident occurred while the train was moving through a rural area between the Khijadiya and Chital railway stations. A local police officer stated the event was reported near Lathi, approximately 13 kilometres from Khijadiya station.
Ajay Sharma, Divisional Security Commissioner of the Western Railway's Bhavnagar Division, said the impact was influenced by the speed of the train and the angle at which the stone struck the window. Although Vande Bharat coaches use double-layered toughened glass, the stone managed to penetrate both layers.
This is the third time in four months that a Vande Bharat train has faced stone-pelting in Gujarat. The previous two occurrences happened in August and October on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express in Surat district.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has launched an investigation to identify the exact location and circumstances of the attack. Railway teams are currently inspecting the area to determine the precise time and place of the incident.
