Green Tankers initiative to start in Hyderabad core urban region from November 1

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju directed government departments to use treated water for non-drinking purposes to ensure sustainable water management.

The Green Tankers initiative will commence in the core urban region of Hyderabad from November 1, according to Telangana Today.

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju announced the move while reviewing the drinking water supply situation in the core urban region on Saturday. He emphasised the need for coordinated water security measures to ensure uninterrupted supply and conserve freshwater and groundwater resources.

Jaju directed all government departments to use treated water for landscaping, cleaning, construction, and other non-drinking purposes. He also instructed officials to regularly verify the quality of treated water from Sewage Treatment Plants to ensure it meets prescribed standards.

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy informed the Chief Secretary that an additional 40 MGD scheme under Mission Bhagiratha will be completed by November 15. He stated that Mission Bhagiratha will continue bulk water supply to all Urban Local Bodies merged with municipal corporations until August next year.

The Water Board will supply treated water through Green Tankers on demand, similar to its existing drinking water tanker service. This facility will be accessible through a dedicated mobile application.

As part of the Save Water Campaign, efforts are being made to reduce water consumption by 20 per cent across industries, institutions, and individuals through conservation and awareness measures, Reddy added.
