Telangana launches innovation challenge to solve seven public-sector issues

The Telangana Innovation Startup Challenge invites innovators to develop solutions for various rural and urban problems across the state.

The Telangana government has launched the Telangana Innovation Startup Challenge (TISC) to encourage startups and technology companies to address public-sector challenges, according to The Hindu.

The initiative was introduced during the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026 curtain raiser in New Delhi last week. It aims to use the state's innovation capabilities to tackle seven priority areas, including healthcare, education, urban infrastructure, agriculture, crop mapping, food safety, and land protection.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to seek solutions for solar-powered irrigation, which is the lead challenge. Participants are expected to create affordable solar pumps or retrofit kits for deep borewells that are 30 per cent cheaper, featuring theft-resistant panels and tamper-proof grid metering.

Other sought solutions include rapid testing kits for food adulteration, satellite systems to detect land and lake encroachments, and automated pothole mapping using vehicle-mounted cameras. The challenge also includes developing a needle-free haemoglobin screening device, an AI tool for Telugu reading assessments, and satellite-based crop mapping.

Selected innovators will have the chance to showcase their work at the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026 in Bharat Future City this December. Submissions will be judged on technology readiness, uniqueness, team capability, relevance, and potential impact.

Applications for the first edition of TISC are open until November 30, 2026. Startups, researchers, and academic institutions from India and global hubs can apply through the official portal.
