Speculation grows over Dhanush entering Tamil Nadu politics

The actor's potential political move follows the electoral success of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.

Speculation is mounting regarding whether actor Dhanush will enter politics, according to a report by India Today Digital. While Dhanush has not announced any political plans, the restructuring of his fan network into the Dhanush Narpani Iyakkam has sparked questions about his next move.

The actor's potential ambitions are being compared to the journey of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. Vijay established the Tamilaga Vettri Kazagham (TVK) party in 2024 and secured 108 of the 234 seats in the 2026 Assembly elections, winning 35 per cent of the votes.

Chennai-based social and political expert Ravindran Duraisamy told India Today Digital that Dhanush's screen image representing Dalits could help him reach Scheduled Caste communities. Duraisamy added that Dhanush's Other Backward Classes community could potentially offer a connection with other social groups.

Senior journalist Sandhya Ravishankar noted that Dhanush could eat into Vijay's vote share, though he has yet to establish a clear ideology or vision for governance. The 43-year-old actor is known for roles in films such as Asuran, Karnan, and Captain Miller.

S Ramesh, a senior journalist with the Thuglak weekly news magazine, told India Today Digital that Vijay's actual result was much stronger than the anticipated 8 per cent to 10 per cent vote share.
