Heavy rain alert in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu till November 3

A deep depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.

Coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are likely to experience heavy rainfall until November 3, as a deep depression in the Southeast Bay of Bengal intensifies, according to the Hindustan Times reporting the Regional Meteorological Centre.

The weather office stated on Sunday that the depression moved west-northwestwards at 23 kmph. The system was located about 700 km southeast of Chennai and 770 km southeast of Vishakhapatnam at 5:30 am on Sunday.

The bulletin said the system is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the Southwest and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal within six hours. It may become a Severe Cyclonic Storm over the West-central Bay of Bengal on November 2.

If the cyclone continues moving north-westwards, it is likely to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur by November 3. Wind speeds could reach 100 to 110 kmph, gusting up to 120 kmph.

The Regional Meteorological Centre predicted light to moderate rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh from November 1, increasing to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on November 2 and 3. Tamil Nadu may see moderate rainfall at many places and heavy rainfall at isolated places on November 2 and 3.

Sea conditions are expected to be very rough and may deteriorate by the forenoon of November 1. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next two to three days.
